The X-A3 is an interchangeable-lens body: buy it, then buy lenses, and it grows with you. The X70 has a fixed 28 mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens and never changes. They came out in the same year at similar money, but they are answers to different questions. If you want one small camera that lives in a coat pocket, the X70 is the more honest buy; if you want a first Fuji you can build on, the X-A3.
The X-A3 has a 24.2 MP Bayer sensor, the X70 a 16.3 MP X-Trans II. On resolution the X-A3 wins outright. On colour rendering the X70 is the one people keep — X-Trans II files have the look that made the X100 series famous, and no amount of megapixels replaces it. Both run the same short film simulation list of that era, PROVIA through Classic Chrome and Monochrome.
Neither has a viewfinder, so both are screen-composed cameras. The X-A3 has a flip-up screen aimed at selfies and 410 shots of battery; the X70 has a tilting touchscreen that flips right forward and 330 shots on the older NP-95. Weight is effectively identical at 339g and 340g. Both cap out at 1080/60 video, and neither is worth buying for video in 2026.
The X-A3 launched at 599 USD and the X70 at 699 USD, both discontinued. Buy the X-A3 if the plan is lenses and growth on a small budget. Buy the X70 if you want a camera you will actually carry every day and you like the 28 mm view — it has become a bit of a cult body for exactly that reason, and prices reflect it.
